Rose Bowl - 2025

The match took place at Denham Golf Club on a grey, overcast day with little wind. Tracey Pennell from The Lambourne was playing against Julie Holmes from Harewood Downs. Their handicaps were the same so no shots were given or received. The 7th hole was out of play due to an irrigation project so the match was played over holes 1 to 7 and 8 to 18, with the 1st hole serving as the 18th hole of the match.

A solid start for Julie winning the first 2 holes. However, Tracey made a comeback winning the next 3 holes, match 1up. The match remained very tight with Tracey staying ahead and Julie getting back to a/s but Tracey dug deep to either maintain her lead or keep the match a/s. Tracey did have her fill of bunkers but her chipping saved her on a number of holes.

A/S going down the 18th with Tracey winning on the last putt

A very close match played in great team spirit. Well done to both players.

We extend our thanks to Rosemary de Lacy who was the match referee and to Denham Golf Club for their generous hospitality and the delicious cake served with the tea afterwards.

Congratulations to Tracey Pennell of The Lambourne

Rose Bowl - 2024

Winner - Ruth Lambert (Beaconsfield GC) & Runner-Up - Gill Hepsworth (Burnham Beeches GC) with County Captain Susanna Mitterer

This was played between Gill Hepsworth (Burnham Beeches) and Ruth Lambert (Beaconsfield) at Hazlemere Golf Club on Tues 8th October.

Teeing off directly behind the Challenge Cup Final, it was nip and tuck for the first few holes, with Gill winning the 1st hole, then Ruth winning the 2nd. On the third, Gill chipped in for a thrilling Par 3, matched by a long putt from Ruth. Gill almost chipped in again on the 5th which would’ve been a birdie.

Despite dire predictions of rain all afternoon, we luckily escaped with only a couple of short showers – although one rain shower was of biblical proportions whilst the ladies were trying to putt on the 12th.

In the end, Ruth’s steady long game gave her the success, and Ruth became the worthy winner on the 15th – beating Gill by 4 & 3.

Helen Pettifer BCLGA Vice County Captain and Linda Fletcher Lady Captain (Hazlemere GC)  walked with the match.

Players, caddies and officials then sat down to a lovely afternoon tea of sandwiches, cakes and scones followed by the presentation of the prizes and the trophies by BCLGA County Captain, Susanna Mitterer.

Thanks go to Chris Evans for standing in at the last minute for acting as referee and to the staff of Hazlemere for hosting the final and their generous hospitality.

Helen Pettifer
